Fuel prices are now about R27 per litre, and while most of us can’t manage our monthly budgets, not everyone in South Africa seems to be bothered about filling up.

The price hike means increased public transport fares and inflation on groceries and bare necessities. And, let’s not even talk about electricity tariffs. However, some feel the pinch a little less than others, as evident at the Creative Rides classic car auction held a Montecasino in Johannesburg on Saturday, 2 July.

The highest bidding car that went under the hammer was a 1968 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2; a local bidder battled for this rare car, with the hammer falling at R2.7 million.

But there were also some other cars on show, 116 in total, and the Blue Oval brand proved to be popular on the day.

The best-selling Ford was a 2013 Mustang Boss 302 Leguna Seca fetching R1 350 000, followed by a Widebody 2016 Mustang for R1.1 million.

A very rare 1972 Ford Fairmont GT sold for R840 000, with the “cheapest” car from the automaker was a non-running 1976 Fairlane for R65 000.

The next Creative Rides auction takes place in December. Visit their site here for more info.
