Ahead of today’s national shutdown by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), an incident at a petrol station  in Parklands last night have kept them and stations elsewhere on high alert.

This, after a small group of protesters gathered in the area, allegedly trying to intimidate fuel stations.

The City of Cape Town’s Mayco Member for security and safety, JP Smith said a few hours ago that private security along with the police responded.

“One EFF supporter was arrested. The other nine EFF supporters retreated into a security complex and hid.

Private security is monitoring the residence,” he said.

The Milnerton Community Policing Forum (CPF) is urging residents to report illegal dumping of tyres or if they notice a large pile of tyres in the area.

According to them, tyres are placed for nefarious use by EFF protesters.

Law enforcement officers have since removed a large number of tyres in Democracy Park in Milnerton.

“Do not participate in activities that will destroy property or prevent people from going about their daily business. It serves no purpose whatsoever,” the CPF warns.
